An Angel Story
The concept of Angel Associates came into being in 1997 in memory of my son, Adam David Paul who passed away in 1992 with cancer at the age of ten.
At the age of one, Adam was diagnosed as being legally blind, mentally and physically disabled and would require 24 hour care. There were so many things that we did not know how to do, such as how to locate the resources and people to educate us along the way. Right from the start the one thing we did know was that we would always care for Adam at home.
With much persistence on our part, exercise programs, assistive devices and school programs were put into place and everyone worked diligently to follow the programs that were customized for Adam. Adam responded to the dedicated care and efforts of the people who worked with him. It was clear that being in his home surroundings with people who he loved, had been integral to his progress.
In June of 1992 Adam showed signs of difficulty with his motor skills. An MRI confirmed that Adam had a terminal brain tumor and the prognosis was eight to ten weeks.
Once again we decided to care for Adam at home. We found ourselves once more making many decisions while being in a very emotional state. Throughout this time we could have used the help of 'one' agency to assume the management of Adam's care as well as organizing some of the needs of our family. There was no 'one' service. It was at this time that I realized such a service was much needed and one day my goal would be to establish just that!
On August 24, 1992, Adam known to us as 'our little Angel' completed his mission on this earth and returned to heaven.
Five years after Adam's death, I decided that it was time to put all of my care giving and community service experience along with my twenty years of business experience in management systems, human resources, marketing, and advertising into a business that would benefit many people.
I had experience working as a National Account Executive/Sales Manager of Canada's largest personnel placement agency with over 100 locations across Canada as well as experience working with a Canadian retail buying group with over 300 stores across Canada. I had been responsible for business development, designed and implemented advertising and promotion programs facilitated and implemented dedicated company sales training and telemarketing programs. I was also responsible for selecting the proper applicants from across the country, as well as their ongoing development and profitability. I had a proven track record in developing long term business relationships and contributing to corporate growth and profitability through the application of successful leadership skills.
Realizing that I had an ability to 'make a difference' in how home care could be delivered and with my own sense of empathy, I decided to take on the larger challenge of spreading Angel services to others in need and thus:
Angel Associates Inc. ' in memory of 'our little Angel'
